James E. Ellenburg, former director of missions for Palmetto Baptist Association and a retired pastor, has written a memoir: “From the Weave Room to the Pulpit: God’s Calling, My Journey.”

Ellenburg completed work on the book shortly before he passed away on Aug. 11, 2014.

A self-described “lint head” who dropped out of school in the 10th grade, Ellenburg was raised on a mill hill in Easley, S.C. While working one day in a cabinet-making class and listening to the radio, Ellenburg heard the preaching of an unknown young evangelist named Billy Graham. He committed himself to following God’s leading — back to the classroom for college and seminary training, and into the ministry. His pastorates took him from the foothills of South Carolina to the inner city of Tampa, Fla., and back.

“From the Weave Room to the Pulpit” details Ellenburg’s life and times, but it also tells the story of God at work in a pastor’s life and in the lives of people he encountered along the way. From the joy of serving people who loved God to facing the tragic loss of a beloved daughter, Ellenburg openly shares his heart on each page and tells how God ordered his steps.

The book is available by mail. Send a check for $16 ($12 plus $4 for shipping), payable to James Ellenburg, to: Maureen Reckert, U.S. Safety Stop, P.O. Box 104, Honea Path, S.C., 29654. The book can also be ordered by calling 864-630-2291.
